Yesterday was another good reminder of just how quickly these markets can move.

Several of our selections were strongly supported after we published, meaning the available prices shortened considerably from those we had assessed when doing the races.

Price matters.

Finding the right horse is only part of the job. We also have to back it at a price which represents value.

For that reason, from today onwards we will include both our tissue price and the available market price at the time of publication. Today’s prices were recorded at approximately 09:15 UK time.

The ground is also going to play an important part today. York is officially Good to Soft, Good in places, Chester is Good to Soft, Soft in places, while Newmarket's July Course is currently Good.

There is some superb racing and, unusually for a big Saturday, we have found opportunities across three different tracks.

YORK

For trivia buffs Eboracum, the ancient Roman name for the city of York in England - that is the history behind the name Ebor.

1.50 – Damysus – NO BET

Tissue: 6.98
Price at 09:15: 5.5

Damysus is our top-rated horse but this is one we are happy to leave alone.

He was progressive through 2025 aside from his Derby disappointment, ending the season with Listed and Group 3 victories before returning this year with another Group 3 success over nine furlongs at Newmarket.

He hasn't quite kicked on since stepping back into stronger company, although his third behind Item in the York Stakes over 1¼ miles reads considerably better following the winner's performance here earlier this week.

Cheekpieces are applied for the first time and there are certainly reasons why he could bounce back.

However, John Gosden's team have endured a relatively quiet week at York and, more importantly, 5.5 is well below our tissue of 6.98.

There are better opportunities later on the card.

2.25 – Infraad & Tierra Del Toro

Infraad – 1 Point Win

Tissue: 4.70
Price at 09:15: 4.40

We have liked Infraad for some time and this looks an obvious target.

He looked a potentially smart staying prospect when getting off the mark by a wide margin at Pontefract in April before shaping better than the bare result when third on his handicap debut at Chester.

His performance at Glorious Goodwood last time was particularly encouraging.

He won a strong 1½-mile handicap and, rather than merely holding on, he was extremely game when challenged and continued to run strongly through the line.

That is important because he moves up in distance again today.

Everything we have seen suggests the additional test of stamina should be within his capabilities, and York should give him plenty of opportunity to use that stamina.

1 POINT WIN if 4.7

Tierra Del Toro – 0.5 Point Each-Way

Tissue: 18.25
Price at 09:15: 32.0

The value alternative is Tierra Del Toro, who is a much bigger price than our tissue.

He has shaped well in some strong handicaps this season.

He finished with running left when third in the London Gold Cup and then raced too freely when contesting the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Last time he finished fourth behind Infraad at Goodwood, but there are reasons to believe the bare six-and-a-half-length margin exaggerates the difference between them.

Tierra Del Toro found himself short of room against the rail at an important stage and wasn't able to build momentum when required.

Most importantly, he now meets Infraad 9 lb better off.

That is a substantial swing and at around 32.0 compared with our tissue of 18.25, he is the obvious value play in the race.

3.00 – Notable Speech – 2 Points Win

One of the races of the day – and we are siding with Notable Speech.

Winner of both the 2000 Guineas and Sussex Stakes as a three-year-old, he reminded everyone of his class when producing that trademark acceleration to win the Lockinge earlier this season.

He subsequently ran below his best at Royal Ascot, but that certainly isn't the first time he has thrown in an ordinary performance before bouncing back.

The fascinating element today is the seven-furlong trip.

We think it could be absolutely ideal.

Notable Speech possesses a devastating turn of foot when everything falls into place and a strongly-run seven furlongs at York should allow William Buick to switch him off before asking him for one decisive effort.

The obvious concern is the ground.

He has disappointed previously when conditions have become easier, so we would certainly prefer to see the surface continue drying through the morning.

But if conditions don't deteriorate significantly, we think he is still the horse they have to beat.

2 POINTS WIN

3.35 – THE EBOR

The £500,000 Ebor remains one of the great betting races of the Flat season – and this year a maximum field of 22 goes to post for Europe's richest handicap.

We've narrowed it down to two.

Klassleader – 1 Point Each-Way

Tissue: 9.40
Price at 09:15: 9.60

Klassleader is a low-mileage four-year-old who still has the profile of a horse capable of considerably better.

He improved again when winning the Jorvik Handicap over 1½ miles here at the Dante meeting in May, handling good-to-soft ground particularly well.

He was disappointing when seventh in the Old Newton Cup afterwards, but the much firmer surface may simply have been against him.

Today he returns to York and gets much more suitable conditions.

Interestingly, William Haggas has specifically indicated that Klassleader doesn't want firm ground and believes the recent ease in the ground has helped his chance.

That makes today's Good to Soft, Good in places surface a definite positive.

There should also be more improvement to come from such a lightly raced four-year-old.

Daiquiri Bay – 1 Point Each-Way

Price at 09:15: 13.0

The second Ebor selection is Daiquiri Bay.

He is another lightly raced four-year-old who has improved considerably since being gelded.

There were plenty of good efforts in strong three-year-old handicaps last season, including his third in the Melrose over this course and distance.

His final start at three came when finishing third in the traditionally strong Old Rowley Cup, but he has taken another sizeable step forward this season.

He won over 1½ miles at Newmarket before landing the Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot over 1¾ miles, showing both stamina and a determined attitude.

The feeling is that he has been saved for this ever since.

His stable has hit excellent form and Alan King reports that preparations have gone very well. He also believes the easier ground will suit, while noting that Daiquiri Bay is physically much stronger than he was twelve months ago.

That physical development could be important.

The handicapper has obviously reacted to his progress, but he may not have finished improving yet.

At around our tissue price, he's worth having on side.

4.10 – Dance Into The Storm – 3 Points Win

Dance Into The Storm looks one of the more solid bets on today's card if we can obtain our price.

She was progressive throughout 2025, winning twice, and has taken another step forward this season.

She has already won two competitive seven-furlong handicaps at Chester – particularly impressive given that she had difficult draws to overcome – while also shaping better than the bare result in defeat on two other occasions.

The key angle today is the drop to six furlongs.

She has frequently travelled through her races as though this sharper trip could suit and a strongly-run six furlongs at York may allow her to sit behind the pace before being produced late.

This is a competitive 20-runner Heritage Handicap on Good to Soft ground, so nothing comes easily, but she looks tailor-made for the test.

3 POINTS WIN – BUT WE WANT THE PRICE 4.5 or above

4.45 – Adonius – NO BET

Adonius comes out narrowly top on our ratings.

He has done very little wrong.

He won his first three starts during the spring before returning from a three-month break with an excellent second in the Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

He has plenty of natural speed, looks well suited by the demands of York and has already demonstrated that he can handle different types of ground.

There is plenty to like.

But being top rated doesn't automatically mean we have to bet.

The margins in our ratings are small and the market isn't giving us enough incentive to become involved.

We are perfectly happy to sit this one out and potentially watch him win.

5.20 – Diego El Queso / Raamee – NO BET

Our top-rated horse is Diego El Queso, but only just.

He returned this season with an excellent victory over 1¼ miles at Leopardstown on soft ground before running extremely well when sixth of 17 behind Al Aali at Glorious Goodwood.

That performance was considerably better than the finishing position suggests.

He suffered a poor passage through the race before finishing strongly and this Irish raider remains capable of another big performance.

However, there is considerable confidence behind our second-rated horse Raamee, and his profile is impossible to ignore.

It was only the fifth start of his career when he won the 22-runner John Smith's Cup over this course and distance last month.

He admittedly enjoyed a clearer passage than several rivals, but once in the clear he was well on top.

He has gone up 8 lb, but there is every reason to think there is considerably more improvement to come.

His trainer is particularly adept with progressive handicappers of this type and Raamee could easily improve past our current rating for Diego El Queso.

With so little separating them, this isn't a race where we want to force a bet.

NEWMARKET

3.19 – Elarak – 1 Point Win

Price at 09:15: 7.20

This is exactly the type of situation we are looking for.

Our tissue makes Elarak a 5.85 chance and the market is offering around 7.2.

He won three times during 2025, including a novice over a mile at this track, and has resumed his progression on his last two starts.

He went very close in the Buckingham Palace Stakes over seven furlongs at Royal Ascot before producing another good performance when third in the Bunbury Cup here six weeks ago.

Today's drop in distance is the angle.

He travels strongly enough through his races to suggest the sharper test can suit and we think it could unlock another small step forward.

Unlike several of today's selections, the early market is giving us a price comfortably bigger than our tissue.

That's where we want to be.

CHESTER

Conditions at Chester are officially Good to Soft, Soft in places, which is potentially significant for our first selection.

2.05 – Rhoscolyn – 2 Points Win

Tissue: 5.66
Price at 09:15: 5.50

We are strong on Rhoscolyn.

He is an experienced and multiple winner over seven furlongs and a mile, and while he is on a losing run, his recent form figures don't tell the entire story.

He was well beaten at Goodwood last time but appeared unsuited by the fast good-to-firm surface.

Today is very different.

He has dropped to what looks a potentially dangerous handicap mark, gets the easier ground he prefers and, crucially around Chester, he has stall one.

That draw gives Ben Robinson options.

At a track where saving ground around the bends can make such a difference, the combination of a low draw, suitable conditions and a reduced handicap mark makes him extremely interesting.

We would ideally like to see 5.66 or bigger, but he is very much one of today's stronger selections.

2 POINTS WIN at 5.66 or above

2.40 – By The Book – 2 Points Win

Price at 09:15: 4.20

Finally, By The Book.

And this one is trading exactly at our tissue price at publication.

He is a lightly raced but smart five-year-old who won three of his first four races during 2024 and 2025.

He returned from a three-month absence at Beverley in July and produced a good effort to finish second behind the classy Al Aasy in Listed company over 1½ miles.

That should have brought him forward.

He steps up to approximately 1 mile 6½ furlongs today in another Listed contest, and Billy Loughnane is booked. The race has attracted only eight runners, which should reduce the possibility of traffic problems around Chester's tight circuit.

There could still be more to come from a horse with relatively few miles on the clock.

Big chance.
