Weather Outlook is Promising for York
The York Ebor Festival runs from tomorrow, Wednesday 19 August, through Saturday 22 August, and at the moment the forecast looks fairly favourable. The main weather concern is Thursday morning, rather than prolonged rain throughout the meeting.

York's official report currently has the ground as “Good – Fast Side”, updated at 4:05pm on 17 August. York Racecourse
On the present forecast, I wouldn't be factoring soft ground into our Ebor Festival analysis. Wednesday looks likely to start on genuinely quick/good ground. Thursday morning's rain is the one thing to watch: if it amounts to more than forecast, it could move the course towards straightforward Good, but at present there is no sign of the sort of sustained rainfall that would transform conditions.
That is particularly useful at York because for the big handicaps we can initially work on the assumption of Good to Good-Fast rather than selecting horses specifically for ease in the ground. I would reassess after Thursday morning before Friday's Nunthorpe, and again before Saturday's Ebor.
The forecast is close enough now that changes matter, so I can check York weather + official going every morning of the Festival and flag anything that changes our betting assumptions.
