The Sussex Stakes is the race that will define this week for us. Everything else on the card is a supporting act — and I mean that in the most practical sense, because the discipline that matters today is knowing which races to leave alone. There are seven proper races on
Glorious Goodwood begins with a superb eight-race card and, as ever at this unique venue, finding the best horse is only half the battle. Goodwood’s sharp turns, downhill sections and changing gradients can expose anything lacking balance or tactical speed. The straight-course races bring their own complications,
The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes has produced a genuinely international contest worthy of its £2 million prize fund. Defending champion Calandagan heads a field of nine on good-to-firm ground, with Japan represented by Masquerade Ball, while Aidan O’Brien launches a powerful four-horse challenge

Every punter has heard the theory. In top-class races, the cream rises. The best horses, the best trainers, the best jockeys — surely the market gets it right at the top level, and surely the favourite is the safest bet in racing? It's a seductive idea. It'
If you've spent years reading form books, learning to spot patterns in past performances, and building your own angle systems, you know how much work good analysis is. You also know that the best insights come from having the right data to examine. That's where Proform
